Lotto Hessen celebrates its 75th anniversary with a staggering revenue of EUR 747 million in 2023, setting a new record.
In the heart of Germany, Lotto Hessen has made waves in the gaming industry with its impressive performance in 2023. The state lottery company announced a record turnover of 747.5 million euros, representing a 0.3% growth compared to the previous year.
The most popular game, Lotto 6aus49, accounted for 41.3% of Lotto Hessen's total revenue in 2023. This classic and nationwide German lottery game has been a favourite among residents of Hesse. The Eurojackpot, a transnational European lottery, followed closely, generating 25.9% of the revenue, marking a 7.1% increase from the previous year. The Instant Lottery came in third, accounting for 11.8% of the total revenue.
Online sales played a significant role in Lotto Hessen's success, with a 9.4% increase from the previous year. In 2023, online sales generated 141.5 million euros, making it a growing sector for the company. Lotto terminals have been installed in three Netto stores in Hesse since October 2023, further expanding the company's online reach.
The residents of Hesse invested around 117 euros per capita per year in participating in the Hessian lottery, making it the federal state with the highest annual per capita turnover of all lottery companies in Germany.
The state of Hesse saw 24.2 million individual winners in 2023, with Lotto Hessen paying out 403.8 million euros in winnings. The highest win of the Hessian lottery society in 2023 was a staggering 22.5 million euros. Interestingly, an anonymous player in Hesse won 304,888.80 euros in the Eurojackpot but has not yet claimed the prize.
Lotto Hessen made 21 people in the federal state new millionaires in 2023. Most of the new lottery millionaires come from the districts of Offenbach and Main-Taunus. Every fifth tip in Hesse is now placed online, reflecting the growing digital trend in the gaming industry.
However, the search for a winner of 1.5 million euros from a draw on April 23, 2023, by Lotto Bayern, a neighbouring lottery company, continues. The ticket for the unclaimed Eurojackpot win is valid until 2026.
With the turnover in the current calendar year being 4% higher than the previous year, Lotto Hessen is hopeful to reach the 750 million euro mark by its 75th anniversary. The company has operated 1,970 sales locations across the state, providing numerous opportunities for residents to participate in the exciting world of lotteries.
