Lowly Rockies secure victory over Cubs as Mickey Moniak delivers walk-off RBI triple, ending game 6-4.
The Colorado Rockies secured a much-needed win against the visiting Chicago Cubs, triumphing 6-4 on Sunday. This victory marked the end of a four-game losing streak and was the team's 11th win in August, their most in any month this season.
Ryan Ritter and Orlando Arcia led the charge for the Rockies, each contributing significantly to the team's success. Ritter had two hits and scored the winning run, while Arcia recorded three hits and an RBI.
Tanner Gordon, the Rockies' pitcher, impressed with a career-high nine strikeouts, demonstrating his potential as a key player moving forward.
The Cubs' offence was not entirely silenced, with Ian Happ hitting his 18th homer of the season. However, starter Matthew Boyd struggled, allowing at least four earned runs in each of his past three starts.
The Rockies will remain at home on Monday to play the San Francisco Giants, with RHP Chase Dollander (2-11, 6.55) set to oppose LHP Carson Whisenhunt (2-1, 5.01). The name of the Giants' starting pitcher is yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, the Cubs will return home to face the Atlanta Braves on Monday, with RHP Colin Rea (10-6, 4.23 ERA) starting the game for Chicago. RHP Spencer Strider (5-12, 4.95) is set to take the mound for Atlanta.
This win was a timely boost for the Rockies, who have been struggling this season, currently standing at 39-98. The team will be hoping to build on this momentum as they continue their quest for more victories.
