Young Darts Star Luke Littler's European Tour: A Mixed Bag of Results
Luke Littler, the 18-year-old reigning world champion, has had a rollercoaster ride in the recent European Tour. His latest outing was at the Czech Open, where he faced some challenges both on and off the dartboard.
Littler started the tournament with a bang, winning his opening match against Cameron Menzies with a score of 6-2. However, things took a turn in the third round when he faced Gian van Veen. Littler praised Van Veen before the match, stating they always have a brilliant game. Despite going 3-0 up, Littler's performance flattened out, and he lost the match with a score of 6-4.
Off the dartboard, Littler found himself in a confrontation with a fan in Prague. The incident occurred after a fan grabbed him without asking for a picture, which Littler expressed displeasure with. This was not the first time Littler faced unwanted reactions from fans. He mentioned that he had experienced similar incidents in the Netherlands during recent tournaments, including the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.
In Berlin and Munich, during German events, Littler was booed by the crowds. However, Littler is looking forward to playing in Dortmund in October, expressing relief about the upcoming event.
Littler's Instagram post mentions his 1.9 million followers, and he has been open about the heat at the venues affecting his performance. Despite the challenges, Littler is determined to win back-to-back European Tour events, having won the Flanders Darts Trophy last week. However, he missed out on the £30,000 prize pot at the Czech Open.
Despite the less than ideal experiences playing in Europe, Littler stated he wouldn't return to Munich until he had to. He is focused on his upcoming match in Dortmund and is looking to make a strong comeback.
