In the heart of the Alps, the principality of Liechtenstein played host to an unconventional royal wedding. The 28-year-old Princess Marie Caroline, known as "Europe's richest princess" by the Swiss tabloid "Blick", exchanged vows with Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer, a Venezuelan-born investment manager.

The wedding took place in the cathedral of Vaduz, with the wedding celebration following in the castle of the princely family. The bride wore a long white dress adorned with embroidery and puff sleeves, adding a touch of elegance to the historic occasion.

It is unusual for a princess to marry a commoner, as stated by Lisbeth Bischof, an expert on aristocracy, working for ORF. Normally, it is the commoner who marries a princess, Bischof explained. However, the princely house of Liechtenstein has a history of breaking tradition.

Liechtenstein, with approximately 40,000 inhabitants, is smaller than Bremen but boasts a wealth that belies its size. The princely house owns forests, a bank, real estate, and even a bank. The wealth of the princely house is a testament to the strategic management of its assets over generations.

The bride's father, Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, is a prominent member of the princely house. Prince Hans-Adam II, the current head of state of the constitutional monarchy of Liechtenstein, was also reported to be present at the wedding.

The principality of Liechtenstein covers an area of 160 square kilometers, making it one of the smallest countries in the world. Despite its size, Liechtenstein's rich history and unique traditions continue to attract attention from around the globe.

As the newlyweds embark on their journey together, the wedding of Princess Marie Caroline and Leopoldo Maduro Vollmer serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries, not even those of royal blood.
