Quadriga 2025: A Showcase of Joint Defence Capabilities
The large-scale military exercise, Quadriga 2025, is currently underway, drawing representatives from politics, administration, and military sectors. This exercise, taking place at the Rostock-WarnemΓΌnde Marine Arsenal Shipyard, is focused on protecting the Baltic Sea region under crisis and wartime conditions.
At the heart of Quadriga 2025 is a mission to defend every square inch of alliance territory on land, at sea, and in the air. This critical objective, as stated by Carsten Breuer, the current Inspector General of the German Armed Forces, is particularly relevant to the NATO eastern flank. Breuer believes a nationwide deterrent with military readiness is essential given the current threat situation.
Various demonstrations are being showcased as part of the exercise. These include drone defense, among others, designed to display the robustness and adaptability of the joint defence capabilities.
The commander of the newly formed 45th Armored Brigade (Panzerbrigade 45) of the Bundeswehr, stationed in Lithuania, is Brigadier General Christoph Huber. He has been in command since the brigade's official commissioning on April 1, 2025. The brigade, planned to be operational with up to 5,000 soldiers by 2027, is a significant addition to the defence forces participating in Quadriga 2025.
The focus on the Baltic Sea region is not new, as the exercise has been held regularly since 2015, with each iteration growing in scale and complexity. This year's event is no exception, with a wide range of capabilities on display, all aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the region.
