Major investment of 50 million euros goes to Impossible Founders
The city of Hamburg is set to welcome a new startup factory, "Impossible Founders", which aims to bring more science-based startups to life. The factory, located in the Digital Hub of the Speicherstadt, was initiated by the Michael Otto Foundation and the Joachim Herz Foundation.
The startup factory received a significant boost with a grant of 10 million euros from the federal government, supplemented by over 40 million euros from Hamburg companies and foundations. This funding, according to Norbert Aust, President of the Chamber of Commerce Hamburg, is a milestone in the context of Hamburg's location strategy.
"Impossible Founders" focuses on the interface of science and economy, particularly in areas such as green technologies, new materials, artificial intelligence, and data science. The factory works closely with the University of Hamburg, the Technical University of Hamburg, and the DESY research center, further strengthening Hamburg's position as a hub for innovation.
Two projects from DESY have been classified as "nationally significant", adding to the city's growing reputation in the field of scientific research. Norbert Aust believes that "Impossible Founders" has the potential to develop into a beacon in the Hamburg innovation ecosystem.
The launch of "Impossible Founders" was marked by a kick-off event in Hamburg. Further information about the factory and the event can be found on the websites hamburg.de and impossible-founders.com.
Meanwhile, the University of Hamburg (UKE) is now a part of the PIER Plus research consortium in Hamburg, further enhancing the city's research capabilities. The Hamburg Innovation Summit 2025 (HHIS 2025) is an upcoming event that questions if Hamburg can innovate, promising an exciting future for the city's innovation ecosystem.
