Man Wanted for Crypto Theft in Phuket Tracked Down Hiding in a Car on Koh Samui (Russia)
In a significant development, a 26-year-old Russian man named Dmitrii was arrested on Koh Samui by Thai police. The arrest was led by Pol Col Panya Niratimanon, Superintendent of Koh Samui Police Station, and was in connection with a violent robbery in Phuket.
According to the available information, an arrest warrant for Dmitrii was issued by Phuket Provincial Court on Wednesday. The suspect had attempted to evade capture and fled to Koh Samui.
The arrest followed coordination with Chalong Police in Phuket. Dmitrii was found hiding in the back seat of a blue Nissan sedan. The driver of the car, Stolbov Gleb, is also a 25-year-old Russian national.
The arrest was in relation to a case where the assailants, believed to be four foreign men, including Mr. Dmitrii, released the victim after the money was transferred. The victim later filed a complaint with Chalong Police, alleging that Dmitrii had lured him to a villa in Chalong under false pretenses of discussing an investment opportunity.
Upon arrival, the victim was physically assaulted, detained, and forced to transfer cryptocurrency and funds amounting to 35,000 USDT (approximately 1.2 million baht).
During the questioning process, Dmitrii refused to give a statement. An interpreter was provided for the process.
Immigration officers believe that the four other suspects have already left Thailand. Dmitrii will be transferred to Chalong Police Station in Phuket for further legal proceedings.
