- Mannheim's Waldhof faces a hefty fine of €90,700
In a recent decision by the German Football Association's (DFB) Sports Court, SV Waldhof Mannheim has been fined €90,700 due to fan misconduct during a home match against Dynamo Dresden in the previous season.
The incidents, which occurred in Frankfurt am Main, saw at least 50 fans of SV Waldhof Mannheim gain unauthorized access to the stadium's pitch area. After the final whistle, these fans lit a traffic light and a Bengal flame, and deliberately launched at least 20 flares into the pitch area. The match was delayed for ten minutes due to these unruly events.
The fine is a hefty sum, amounting to €90,700, and is related to multiple instances of unsportsmanlike behavior by the club's supporters. The DFB's Sports Court has not yet announced any further penalties for these incidents.
This is not the first time SV Waldhof Mannheim has been convicted for unsportsmanlike behavior of its supporters. In three separate cases, the club has been found guilty of fan misconduct. The police also intervened during the game due to the unauthorized access.
It's worth noting that these incidents did not affect the final result of the match. However, they do highlight a need for stricter fan control and education about acceptable stadium behaviour.
The DFB's Sports Court has imposed the fine, emphasising the importance of maintaining a safe and fair environment for all football matches in Germany. The club has yet to comment on the decision.
