Dr. Bruno Kahl, who has served as President of the Federal Intelligence Service (BND) for over nine years, is stepping down to take up the post of Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Holy See in Rome.

The Federal Government has expressed sincere thanks to Dr. Kahl for his service as BND President. During his tenure, the BND has become an integral part of Germany's security architecture. Under his leadership, the demands on the BND as a foreign intelligence service have grown, and its work as an information service provider and early warning system has become more crucial to the Federal Government than ever before.
