Maryland casinos experience a 2.1% decline in total revenue compared to August of the previous year

Maryland's six casinos generated a combined revenue of $170.3 million in August 2024, marking a 2.1% decrease compared to the $173.9 million generated in the same month the previous year, according to a report by Charlotte Capewell for our website.

Video lottery terminals (VLTs) accounted for $118.2 million of the total revenue in August 2024, a minor decrease from the $118.5 million generated in August 2023. Table games contributed $52 million to the revenue in August 2024, a minor decrease from the $55.4 million generated in August 2023.

Half of the state's casinos experienced modest revenue growth, but this was offset by the losses from the state's top-earning property, MGM National Harbor. The casino posted the largest monthly total at $70.1 million, a 6.5% decline from its performance in August 2023.

Hollywood Casino, the state's second-smallest casino, experienced a 13% revenue decline in August 2024. Unfortunately, the losses from Hollywood Casino were not offset by any other casino's gains, as the losses from MGM National Harbor still remained significant.

The exact revenue figures for the other casinos in both August 2024 and 2023 were not specified in the report. It is worth noting that the MGM National Harbor in Maryland recorded its lowest monthly revenue of $70.1 million in August 2022.
