Mass rally in Israel over Gaza peace accords
In the ongoing Gaza conflict, recent developments have seen a series of statements and proposals from various parties involved.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has demanded the surrender and disarmament of Hamas, while his right-wing coalition partners are against a ceasefire. Netanyahu insists on a comprehensive deal for the release of all captives at once, as per reports from Israeli information, which suggest that 20 of the 48 captives still in Gaza are believed to be alive.
Hamas, on the other hand, has shown a willingness to negotiate via international mediators for a lasting resolution to the conflict. The militant group has proposed an exchange of captives for Palestinian prisoners "through serious negotiations" and has expressed a desire for the import of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
In a significant move, Hamas reaffirmed its agreement to a ceasefire proposal by international mediators in the evening. This comes after three weeks without a response from Israel to Hamas' answer to the mediators, according to a statement from the Forum of Hostages' Families. The Forum of Families of the captives still held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip has called on Netanyahu to dispatch a negotiating delegation for talks on ending the war and the return of all captives.
Critics have accused Netanyahu of unnecessarily prolonging the war, as tens of thousands of people demonstrated outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in Jerusalem, demanding an end to the Gaza conflict.
Netanyahu, however, wants Israel to retain security control over the Gaza Strip. Hamas, in contrast, has stated its openness to a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip.
A peace initiative for the Gaza conflict was proposed by Sahra Wagenknecht and other prominent figures at a large demonstration in Berlin. The initiative called on the German government to actively pursue diplomatic peace negotiations; however, this initiative has so far not been accepted by Israel.
In a recent statement, Hamas expressed its openness to any ideas and proposals that could lead to a lasting ceasefire. This statement was made in response to a peace demonstration in Berlin, which aimed to push for diplomatic peace negotiations.
As the conflict continues, both sides remain hopeful for a peaceful resolution, with international mediation playing a crucial role in facilitating negotiations.
