Massive Daily Capital Expenditures by AWS, Microsoft, Google, and Oracle Exceed One Billion Dollars!
In a recent development, the leaders of the AI industry, often referred to as the hyperscalers – Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, Google, and Oracle – are collectively investing approximately $90.1 billion for the second quarter, a significant portion of which is directed towards Capital Expenditure (CapEx).
The daily CapEx spending of these giants amounts to approximately $1 billion, a substantial sum aimed at meeting the explosive demand for AI services.
Andy Jassy, the CEO of Amazon, emphasised that the AI industry is still in its infancy, with AWS boasting an impressive annualized run rate business of $123 billion.
Microsoft, one of the key players, spends approximately $27 billion on CapEx, while Google Cloud invests $22.4 billion. AWS, not to be outdone, allocates $31.6 billion for the same purpose.
Oracle, another prominent name in the industry, spent $9.1 billion on CapEx during the quarter, a figure that surpasses their previous records. Oracle's quarter ended on May 31. The company, known for its extensive AI and cloud services and global distributed cloud strategy, is expected to increase its CapEx spending to more than $25 billion for the coming year, according to CEO Safra Catz.
Microsoft's CFO, Amy Hood, revealed that the company has future commitments worth $368 billion in customer contracts for Microsoft Cloud. However, Hood admitted that the company currently does not have enough capacity to meet this demand.
The hyperscalers' substantial investments are a testament to the growing demand for AI services and the commitment of these companies to meet this demand, ensuring the continued growth and development of the AI industry.
