Maximum sentence handed down to convicted in Sherzat case by the court
The criminal trial over the tragic murder of 12-year-old Sherzat Polat, which took place last October, has concluded in Talgar. The trial saw the sentencing of Abzal Shynasyl, Ravil Sakiev, and Azamat Toktaubaev for their roles in the heinous crime.
According to the prosecution, Shynasyl, Sakiev, and Toktaubaev were sought prison terms of 20, 23, and 15 years respectively for their involvement in the murder. Shynasyl was identified as the one who delivered the fatal blow to Sherzat, causing a stab wound to his left chest and resulting in massive blood loss. Two independent forensic medical examinations confirmed the cause of death.
The others involved in the incident were charged with hooliganism under the Criminal Code. Nurbekova and Zhaksylyk, two women who testified in court, were referred to the Department of Police of Almaty Region for further procedural decision. Kazakenov and Ruzbakiyev were also referred for the same reason.
The prosecution presented a complete timeline of the event during the trial, and all evidence was thoroughly examined. The hearings were held in open mode, allowing all citizens to follow the process online. The trial proceedings were conducted strictly in accordance with the law.
It was established during the trial that the injuries inflicted by other participants did not contribute to Sherzat's death. The others involved were to face the maximum penalty for hooliganism under the Criminal Code.
