MDW Opting for Lawo Equipment in Studio Enhancement
University of Miami Installs Lawo's mc236 MkII for Classical Music Production
The University of Miami's Institute of Composition, Sound, and Music Production has recently equipped Studio B with the Lawo mc236 MkII all-in-one mixing console. This innovative console, renowned for its robust features, marks a significant step forward in the university's educational offerings.
The mc236 MkII, with its powerful DSP capabilities and flexible configuration options, offers a perfect solution for classical music recording and postproduction. The console's ability to be flexibly and precisely configured meets the demands of this intricate field.
The mc236 MkII's installation in Studio B completes a trio of studios, each with its unique setup. Studio C boasts an analog console, while Studio A employs a controller-based setup. The mc236 MkII's installation in Studio B fills the gap, providing a high-end digital console for students to learn Lawo's technology.
The console's installation in July 2023 was preceded by its configuration at Lawo's facility in Rastatt, Germany. The mc236 MkII was delivered in June and was fully integrated into the university's infrastructure by August.
The mc236 MkII's user-friendly interface, featuring color-coded TFT fader strips and touch-sensitive rotary controls, allows students to adapt quickly and develop critical problem-solving skills while configuring complex routings or network connections.
To enhance the console's robust local I/O, Studio B is supplemented with a DirectOut Prodigy for expanded connectivity. The combination of the mc236 MkII and the DirectOut Prodigy ensures superior sound quality.
The mc236 MkII also offers seamless integration of all DAWs via a secondary monitor. It enables straightforward audio-over-IP workflows, including point-to-point stagebox connections. The console's IP-based architecture and native support for IP Easy/HOME plug-and-play management make it seamlessly integrate into MDW's existing network infrastructure.
Professor Heister, of the Institute of Composition, Sound, and Music Production, stated that the installation of the mc236 MkII fulfills the goal of training students on a high-end digital console with Lawo's technology. He also noted that the console's full-HD touchscreens provide precise visual feedback, offering a clear overview of audio channels and levels.
This installation follows a previous installation of a Lawo mc256 MkIII in Studio Control Room 1 (Tonregie 1) in August 2023 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The University of Miami's decision to invest in Lawo's technology underscores the importance of providing students with the best tools for their education in the field of music production.
