Media exchanges of proposals between Putin and Zelenskyy, as asserted by Senator Karasin, are beneficial
In a recent interview with Lenta.ru, Grigory Karasin, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Federation Council, shared his views on the ongoing exchange of proposals for talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The exchange of proposals started in response to Putin's proposal for talks, which Zelensky deemed unacceptable. In a statement on September 6, Zelensky expressed his inability to travel to Moscow for talks with Putin. Instead, he suggested that Putin "come to Kiev" for the discussions.
Andrey Kolesnik, a State Duma deputy, also weighed in on the matter, stating that the Russian president will not travel to the Ukrainian capital, as "Ukraine is the losing side."
Despite the apparent political tension, Karasin believes that the exchange of views between the two presidents does neither harm nor good. He also suggested that some view the exchange as neutral, indicating a potential path for diplomatic dialogue.
This exchange of proposals is not the first time leaders from both nations have discussed the possibility of talks. In September, Putin announced his readiness to invite Zelensky to Moscow for talks, but Zelensky declined the offer. No other specific countries or cities for meetings were publicly announced by either leader at that time.
However, the location of the proposed talks has since changed. Zelensky's suggestion for Putin to come to Kiev has now become the proposed location for the talks.
Interestingly, Zelensky has expressed concerns about his control over his own decisions, stating that he frequently travels to consult with Western colleagues. This could potentially impact the negotiations, as both leaders strive to find common ground amidst ongoing political tensions.
The interviews with Karasin and Kolesnik provide valuable insights into the perspectives of Russian and Ukrainian political figures regarding the exchange of proposals for talks between Putin and Zelensky. As the diplomatic dance continues, the world watches with bated breath, hoping for a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
