Holy Cross Men's Hockey Advances to AHA Semifinals
The Holy Cross Men's Hockey team is continuing their impressive run in the Atlantic Hockey (AHA) tournament, having advanced to the semifinals following a conference sweep against Canisius.
In the quarterfinals, played at the Hart Center, the Crusaders outplayed Canisius, who had come off a 5-2 win over Mercyhurst in their play-in-game. The final score was 3-1 in favour of Holy Cross, extending their winning streak to seven games.
Liam McLinksey, a key player for the team, was instrumental in both games against Canisius. He scored a game-winning goal and had an assist in Game 2, and also scored a goal and had an assist in Game 1.
The team's previous game was against Sacred Heart Pioneers, and it ended in a 2-1 victory for Holy Cross. This was a repeat of their dominance in Game 1, which was a 5-1 blowout.
As a result of their impressive performances, Holy Cross has clinched a top-three finish and a playoff bye. They are currently in third place in Atlantic Hockey.
The details of the AHA Semifinals matchup are yet to be announced. However, the next game for the team is scheduled for 7pm on February 20, against Bentley. Interestingly, their seven-game win streak was ended by Bentley in the final game of the regular season, with a 5-1 loss.
Meanwhile, the Women's Hockey team is also making headlines. After a tough 8-game losing streak, they managed to snap the streak following their return from winter break. Their recent performance marks their highest win streak in over a decade.
The Atlantic Hockey and Hockey East playoffs are now set, and the Holy Cross Men's Hockey team is looking forward to their next challenge in the AHA Semifinals.
