Merger of colossal entities Evri and DHL's UK eCommerce division receives approval from regulatory body.
The merger of DHL's UK eCommerce business with parcel delivery giant Evri has been approved by regulators, creating a formidable force in the UK's parcel delivery industry.
Evri, which was acquired by US investment group Apollo last year for £2.7bn, is expected to deliver 1 billion parcels and 1 billion business letters annually. The combined group will operate a fleet of 8,000 vehicles and have a total workforce of over 43,000 employees, including 30,000 couriers and van drivers, and 12,000 employees.
Martijn de Lange, CEO of Evri, stated that the merger will create the pre-eminent parcel delivery group in the UK. The new group aims to offer more efficient, far-reaching, and innovative solutions to keep up with the fast-paced eCommerce market.
DHL Group will take a minority stake in the private equity-backed Evri, with Pablo Ciano, CEO of DHL eCommerce, joining the new group's leadership. He expressed that the partnership is a great fit for customers.
Stu Hill, currently CEO of DHL eCommerce UK, will become Managing Director of Evri's Premium DHL network business. The merged business will have access to DHL's own eCommerce network in Europe, the US, and selected Asian markets such as India, providing faster transit times across the world.
Evri will retain its core branding, with DHL eCommerce in the UK operating under Evri Premium. The new group will include an expanded international capability for inbound and outbound parcels.
Alex van Hoek, Apollo partner and Evri chairman, is pleased with DHL as a strategic partner and shareholder. He emphasised that the merged group will create a one-stop shop for all customers' parcel needs in the UK, providing better delivery options from around the world.
Despite the investor trying to prevent the liquidation of the northeastern German technology company Zytronic remaining unidentified, since Apollo-managed funds became Evri's owners, they have backed the company's intent to grow and become the UK's premier parcel delivery business. The new group is well-positioned to further improve its reliable services and the customer experience, by embracing technology and innovation.
