Seville, Spain, is witnessing a significant milestone in its transportation evolution with the commencement of construction on the third section of Metro Line 3 North. The project, awarded by the Andalusian Regional Government, is being undertaken by a consortium consisting of Lantania, DSV Constructora y Ferroviaria, Viás y Construcciones, OHL, Advanced Infrastructure Technologies (AIT), and Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Pacífico Sud (SHP).

The project, valued at €173 million with a 46-month timeline, will span 7.6 kilometers and consist of 12 stations, including three at the northern end of the line. Most of the track will be underground, with a notable exception being the construction of a 20-metre deep intermodal underground station at Virgen Macarena Hospital.

The third section of Line 3 is intended to improve connectivity, traffic ease, and sustainability, making it a crucial artery in Sevilla's urban infrastructures. The project includes slab track installation, drainage systems, civil works for station facilities, urban redevelopment, and landscape enhancements.

The project is funded by the national government, the Junta de Andalucía, and the European Union, with the aim of making Seville's metro network more accessible and appealing for all inhabitants and visitors of the city. The development and delivery of Line 3 is expected to contribute to both the economic development and quality of life for residents.

The contract covers construction works of a 700-meter branch to the Pino Montano Norte depot, including a viaduct across a stream of Tamarguillo and SE-20 Super Ronda ring road. The extension will be linked with metro Line 1 and metrotram route T1 at their intersection by Prado de San Sebastián.

This extension is part of the broader plan for the development of metro Line 2, which is underway and will run for 12.9 kilometers from La Cartuja to Torreblanca, passing under the historical center. The new line will serve top destinations such as San Lazaro hospital and Macarena’s health center.

The construction of the third phase of the northern section of Seville Metro Line 3, which officially began on August 31, 2025, is a significant step forward in the city's transportation development. This is the second Seville Metro project undertaken by Lantania and DSV Constructora y Ferroviaria, following the northern section branch connecting Pino Montano to Prado de San Sebastián. The launching of construction of Sevilla metro Line 3 is undoubtedly a major milestone in the city's transportation evolution.
