Michigan Wolverines Extend Lead Over New Mexico Lobos

In a high-scoring fourth quarter, the Michigan Wolverines managed to maintain their advantage over the New Mexico Lobos, winning 34-17.

Justice Haynes, the Wolverines' standout running back, scored a 1-yard touchdown with 10:14 remaining in the fourth quarter, increasing Michigan's lead to 34-17. This touchdown was Haynes' third of the game, and it came after a 16-carry, 159-yard performance.

Haynes' first touchdown of the game was an electrifying 56-yard run that gave the Wolverines an early 7-0 lead. Michigan extended their lead to 17-0 with a field goal by Dominic Zvada and another touchdown from Haynes, this time from 5 yards out.

The Lobos managed to pull within 17-10 late in the first half, but Michigan responded with a touchdown on an 8-play, 75-yard drive to go ahead 24-10 with 25 seconds before halftime. Bryce Underwood, the Wolverines' debuting quarterback, threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Marlin Klein.

Zvada added another field goal for Michigan early in the third quarter, making the score 27-10. However, Dorian Thomas, the Lobos' star wide receiver, scored his second touchdown of the evening for New Mexico with 1:40 left in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 27-17.

Underwood, a freshman, completed 21 of 31 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown in his collegiate debut. He showed promise, but also had three interceptions. Klein finished with six catches for 93 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines.

Thomas had a strong game for the Lobos as well, catching 10 passes for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Jack Layne, the Lobos' quarterback, completed 31 of 47 passes for 208 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

Overall, Michigan outgained New Mexico 452-267 in total offense. The Wolverines will look to build on this victory as they continue their season, while the Lobos will look to bounce back in their next game.
