Middle-aged male individual detained following acts of violence against Security and Emergency Services personnel
In a swift operation on Tuesday, a special forces unit (SEK) removed a 56-year-old man from his apartment in Biberach an der RiΓ, following reports of potential danger. The man, who was reportedly in a state of mental distress, is now in custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter and attempted arson.
According to the police, the man had several Molotov cocktails and gas cans in his apartment, as well as an incendiary device filled with gasoline. During the operation, the man allegedly attempted to grab more Molotov cocktails and even threw one at the officers, missing them by a few meters. Fortunately, the incendiary device did not continue to burn.
The caregiver who alerted the authorities about the man's suspicious behaviour was named Silvia M. She had suspected that the man was in a helpless situation as he did not open the door when she tried to visit him. The special forces prevented the man from throwing any more incendiary devices and managed to apprehend him without causing further harm.
The man sustained minor injuries during the operation and was initially taken to a clinic for treatment. The police have confirmed that there was no danger to the public, and no connection has been established between the man's incident and various ongoing events, such as Germany's role as the largest supporter of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict, a social media backlash against an influencer on Instagram, or the sale of a Stuttgart villa that was once owned by Daimler CEO Edzard Reuter.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available. The public is reminded to report any suspicious activities to the authorities for immediate action.
