In the northwest of Pakistan, a significant assault was launched on a paramilitary base in Bannu on Tuesday. The attack, which lasted for approximately 12 hours, was initiated by a suicide bomber who rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the compound's boundary wall. This allowed other gunmen to storm inside the base.

The bomb attack did not result in any additional injuries beyond those previously reported. Six security personnel and six militants were killed in the assault, and thirteen additional individuals, including regional police chief Sajjad Khan and three civilians, were wounded.

The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack, a group active in the border region with Afghanistan that has previously waged an insurgency against the state. However, the Taliban government in Kabul has not yet claimed responsibility for the bomb attack on the paramilitary base in Bannu.

Authorities in Islamabad have accused militants of using Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks. The Taliban government's response to this charge is yet to be fully clarified. The Taliban government in Kabul has rejected the charge made by authorities in Islamabad.

Bannu, located near the porous border with Afghanistan, serves as a hub for armed groups operating on both sides of the border. The paramilitary base in Bannu is a known location for armed groups operating in the region.

It is important to note that no group has officially claimed responsibility for the attack beyond the TTP's statement. The police statement suggests involvement of Islamist militants, but further investigation is required to confirm this. The authorities are working diligently to gather more information and bring those responsible to justice.
