MLB Highlights: Trevor Rogers Shines for Orioles, Bryan Woo Achieves Historic Feat, Colorado Rockies Edge Near Miss on Disappointment Record
The Colorado Rockies have been on a roll lately, winning six of their last eight games after a historically awful start to the season. Their run differential of -333 is comfortably worse than last year's White Sox team, which lost a modern record 121 games with a minus-302 run differential.
Meanwhile, in the world of pitching, two players have been making waves with their remarkable performances.
Bryan Woo's Impressive Streak
Bryan Woo, a righty pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, has been turning heads with his consistent performances this season. Since being called up for good on June 18, Woo has gone at least six innings without walking more than two batters in all 24 of his starts, a feat that is unprecedented for a pitcher beginning a season.
Woo's streak of 24 straight starts with at least six innings and no more than two walks is the longest such streak in a single season since Cy Young's 30-game streak in 1905. His impressive run has earned him the title of the first pitcher in history with 24 straight starts of at least six innings and no more than two walks to begin a season.
Trevor Rogers' Ace-Like Performance
On the other side of the field, Trevor Rogers, a lefty pitcher for the Orioles, has been pitching like a legitimate ace in recent weeks. Rogers has had five straight starts of at least six innings and no more than one run allowed.
His recent performance against the Red Sox was particularly noteworthy, striking out seven in seven innings of one-run ball. Rogers' interim manager, Tony Mansolino, described his performance as "ace-type."
Despite his impressive run, it's worth noting that Bryan Woo, who was taken by the Mariners in the sixth round in 2021, is not the pitcher who recently set a record for 24 consecutive starts with six innings and two or fewer walks. That distinction belongs to Nolan McLean, a rookie pitcher for the Mets, who had eight strikeouts, allowed two hits and four walks in his debut against the Mariners.
In the midst of these impressive streaks, the trade deadline for the 2025 MLB season has passed, and teams are gearing up for the final stretch of the regular season, with fewer than six weeks remaining. Cristopher SaΜnchez currently leads all pitchers with a 3.1 war (Wins Above Replacement) since June 18.
As the season winds down, it's clear that both the Rockies and some of the league's top pitchers are making a strong push for success.
