Modern New York eatery Manuela excels in the culinary craft of contemporary cuisine
In the heart of SoHo, New York, the highly anticipated restaurant Manuela has made its debut. Owned by Artfarm, Manuela is more than just a dining destination; it's a celebration of sustainability, local artists, and community cultivation.
Located at 130 Prince St, New York, NY 10012, United States, Manuela occupies a generous footprint, having been created by combining two spaces. The restaurant's interior design was handled by British interior designer Russell Sage, who brought a unique flair to the space. Sage's design approach was raw and industrial, aiming to honour the neighbourhood's history and tie together the numerous artworks that adorn the restaurant.
One of the site-specific artworks is a 7m-long table by Rashid Johnson. This magnificent piece takes centre stage in the main dining area, its grandeur enhanced by a clashing patchwork curtain that serves as a fluid boundary with the private dining room. The private dining room showcases artwork from the Hauser & Wirth collection, including pieces by Louise Bourgeois, Cindy Sherman, George Condo, and Jenny Holzer. The private dining room does not separate from the main dining area's energy, as intended, providing a seamless flow throughout the restaurant.
The private dining room is not the only space showcasing art at Manuela. The restaurant features more than 45 artworks, including seven site-specific ones by Hauser & Wirth artists. The availability of the specific artists who developed and installed special works at Manuela remains undisclosed.
Manuela's menu is as impressive as its art collection. Offering a seasonal American menu, half of it is plant-focused. All food is freshly prepared using a wood-fired grill or charcoal oven, ensuring a delicious and authentic dining experience.
The article about Manuela can be found in the March 2025 issue of the website, available on international newsstands, on the website app on Apple iOS, and to subscribers of Apple News +. Subscription to the website is also available for those who wish to stay updated on the latest in the culinary and art worlds.
Recycled and sustainable materials were incorporated into the design of Manuela, including a sculptural bar made from plastic waste sourced from around New York. This commitment to sustainability is evident throughout the restaurant, making Manuela not just a place to dine, but a statement about the future of dining experiences.
