In an exciting move for tech enthusiasts, Noctua, a renowned brand known for its low-noise cooling solutions, has collaborated with Framework to enhance the cooling and upgrade capabilities of the Framework Desktop PC.

The collaboration has resulted in the integration of Noctua's NF-A12x25 fan and a custom duct system into the side panel of the Framework desktop. This innovation has significantly lowered the noise levels of the device by up to seven decibels. Moreover, higher fan speeds in the upgraded Framework desktop PC have led to better cooling performance.

However, Noctua found that adding a second 80mm exhaust fan at the front of the case increased noise levels beyond what they deemed acceptable, making it a trade-off that wasn't worth the noise increase.

The Framework Desktop is currently available for pre-order and is scheduled to ship in Q4 of this year. The device is a compact and efficient device with a unique design and useful extras, making it a standout choice for tech lovers.

Customizable options for the chassis, side panels, and ports are available for the Framework Desktop, allowing users to tailor their device to their specific needs. Furthermore, Noctua is giving away the Framework Desktop custom fan duct and the Framework Desktop side panel for free.

The 3D-printable duct system for the NF-AS12x25 fan, designed by Noctua to improve the noise levels of the Framework desktop PC, is also available for download. Additionally, a 3D-printable quick-mount system for the Framework Desktop PC, developed by the community, can be found on platforms like GitHub and Thingiverse.

Framework Desktop's upgrades are more plug and play than the plug and pray that some component upgrades can feel like, making it a user-friendly choice for those looking to upgrade their devices. However, Noctua discovered that at extreme load with high ambient temperatures, the system with the NF-12x25 G2 fan could overheat as the fan couldn't get enough hot air out in time to prevent throttling.

To print the Framework Desktop side panel, it takes just under nine hours on the Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro, while it takes just over two hours on the Elegoo Centauri Carbon, thanks to its CoreXY design and fast printing speed.

Noctua consulted on the initial design of the Framework desktop PC due to its reputation for low noise levels and efficient cooling. The Framework Desktop is, therefore, designed to make upgrades faster and more seamless compared to standard desktop PCs.

In summary, the collaboration between Noctua and Framework has resulted in a significant improvement in the noise levels and upgrade capabilities of the Framework Desktop PC. The device is a compact, efficient, and customizable choice for tech enthusiasts, with easy upgrade options and a unique design.
