More than eight out of ten electric car owners deem electricity as indispensable for their daily routines.

YouGov, a renowned research organisation, recently conducted a survey to assess the public's perception of electric vehicles (EVs) in Germany. The survey was carried out between last Tuesday and Thursday with 2,006 participants from the YouGov panel, making it representative of the resident population in Germany aged 18 and over.

The survey findings indicate a significant improvement in the reputation of electric drive compared to a deterioration. In fact, 42% of respondents reported an improvement in their overall perception of electric drive over the past five years. This positive shift is reflected in the increasing number of EV drivers who consider their vehicles practical for everyday use. According to the survey, 80% of EV drivers hold this view, while only 45% of non-EV drivers agree.

When it comes to concerns about charging points and range, people without experience with EVs rate their everyday practicality worse than EV drivers. The survey reveals that 59% of respondents without EV experience expect a lack of public charging points, similar to 52% of EV drivers. Similarly, a similar picture emerges regarding insufficient range: 61% of respondents without EV experience would expect this disadvantage, while 55% of EV drivers have had similar experiences.

Despite these concerns, the survey results suggest a positive shift in public perception of electric vehicles. Only 23% of respondents perceive a deterioration in the reputation of electric drive. This is a promising sign as more and more people consider the benefits of electric vehicles, such as reduced emissions and lower fuel costs.

The survey, conducted for the German Press Agency (Deutsche Presse-Agentur), indicates that the image of electric vehicles is improving. As more charging infrastructure is developed and electric vehicles become more common, it is likely that these concerns will continue to diminish, further boosting the popularity of electric vehicles in Germany.
