Morocco Makes History at the 2022 World Cup

In an unprecedented achievement, Morocco has made history as the first African team to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, held in Qatar last year.

The North African nation's journey was marked by significant victories and close losses. They secured their spot in the World Cup with a resounding 5:0 victory against Niger in the qualification matches held in Africa. This triumph was made possible by goals from Ayoub El Kaabi, Hamza Igamane, Azzedine Ounahi, and a brace from Ismael Saibari. Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Brahim Diaz (Real Madrid), and Eliesse Ben Seghir of Leverkusen were among the key players in this match.

However, Morocco's run came to an end in the semi-finals, where they lost to France with a score of 0:2. Despite this defeat, Morocco's performance was notable for their victories over powerhouse teams such as Belgium, Spain, and Portugal.

The team's World Cup journey was not without its challenges. In the match against Niger, Niger played with ten men after a yellow-red card in the 26th minute. Morocco managed to maintain their momentum and secured another victory.

Unfortunately, Morocco's World Cup run ended with a loss in the third-place playoff to Croatia with a score of 1:2. Nonetheless, the team's performance has earned them a place in the hearts of football fans worldwide.

Looking ahead, Morocco has already qualified for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Tanzania, the runner-up in Group E qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, will be a formidable opponent in the qualification matches.

Morocco's historic semi-final appearance at the 2022 World Cup is a testament to the team's resilience and determination. With their sights set on the 2026 World Cup, Morocco is poised to make even more history in the future.
