Motorway 66 Accident Resulted in Driver Injury and Extensive Bridge Damage; Ongoing Repair Work on Railings
In a regrettable turn of events, a significant traffic accident occurred on the A66 between Steinau and Schlüchtern-Süd junctions at approximately 1:40 PM. The incident involved a Porsche 911 Carrera, driven by a 59-year-old man from the Aschaffenburg area.
The driver sustained severe injuries in the accident and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. The vehicle, unfortunately, is estimated to be a total loss.
Initial investigations suggest that a tire on the vehicle may have burst, leading to the accident. Police are currently investigating this possibility further.
The L3179 and a portion of the A66 were fully closed during the cleanup operation and the subsequent repairs to the bridge railing. The repairs are ongoing, with expectations of completion by the end of the day. However, other parts of the bridge railing were left hanging from the bridge during the process.
The estimated total damage from the accident is around 200,000 euros.
