Motorway Emergency Road Construction in Pinneberg-Halstenbek-BAB 23 - Law Enforcement Monitoring and Penalizing Motorcycle Infractions
In an effort to ensure traffic safety, the Police Directorate Bad Segeberg has been conducting regular traffic checks on the A23 motorway between Pinneberg-Nord and Halstenbek / Krupunder. Last week, officers from the Elmshorn Police Highway and District Station recorded a total of nine motorcycles using the emergency lane to bypass traffic on the northbound carriageway.
Unauthorized use of the emergency lane is a serious offence, as it can hinder the swift movement of emergency vehicles such as fire engines and ambulances in case of an emergency. According to regulations, such misuse is punishable by a fine of 240 euros, two points, and a one-month driving ban.
One motorcyclist refused to comply during a traffic check, arguing that he was allowed to use the emergency lane. He was charged with intentional misconduct and his fine was doubled to 480 euros. However, there is no publicly available information about any individuals being arrested last week by the Bad Segeberg police for unauthorized use of an emergency lane on the north carriageway.
When traffic is slow or stopped, the emergency lane must be formed and kept clear immediately. The rule of thumb for forming the emergency lane is: drivers on the left lane move to the left, all other drivers move to the right. This rule applies to all road users, including motorcycle riders.
