Parubii began his political journey in 1990, when he became a member of Lviv Oblast Council. In 1991, he co-founded the Social-National Party of Ukraine alongside Oleh Tiahnybok.
Throughout his career, Parubii held various significant positions. He served as the commander of the Self-Defence of Maidan (the Revolution of Dignity) group and was a member of parliament from the 6th to 9th convocations, serving as the speaker of the Verkhovna Rada in the 8th convocation.
In the latter part of his career, Parubii was a member of the political party "European Solidarity." However, the circumstances surrounding his sudden and tragic death are under active investigation by the authorities.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already reacted to Parubii's murder, expressing his condolences to the family and loved ones of the slain politician. In his statements, Zelenskyy noted that Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko have reported on the initial known circumstances of Parubii's murder.
