In a recent interview with ANI, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has voiced his support for a potential partnership between Mahendra Singh Dhoni and India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, for the T20 World Cup 2026. However, Tiwary also expressed some reservations about Dhoni's availability for the mentorship role.

Tiwary, who played alongside both Dhoni and Gambhir for India, notably during the World Cup 2011 final, believes that a collaboration between the two could be beneficial. "Dhoni and Gambhir have a history of effective partnership on the field, and I think their combined expertise could be invaluable to the team," Tiwary said.

However, Tiwary also shared his concerns about Dhoni's accessibility. "I've had difficulties in reaching him by phone, and I've heard the same from several other players. Replies from Dhoni to messages are rare," he stated.

Dhoni, who continues to play cricket despite turning 44 in July, has had a successful career, guiding India to titles in the T20 World Cup 2007, the World Cup 2011, and the Champions Trophy 2013. He served as a mentor during the T20 World Cup 2021. Currently, Dhoni is the wicketkeeper for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League.

Tiwary, who is currently an MLA in West Bengal, also recalled a time when he accused Dhoni of partiality, stating, "He did not like me." However, the interview did not discuss any specific response from Dhoni regarding the mentorship offer.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approached Dhoni for a mentorship role with the Indian cricket team for the T20 World Cup 2026.
