Multiple individuals sustained injuries during a vehicular collision on the road
In the Wedding district of Berlin yesterday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred at the intersection of Dohnagestell and SeestraΓe. A 20-year-old driver, whose identity remains undisclosed, drove a car into a group of people, including six children and a caregiver.
The group of children, accompanied by their caregiver, were crossing Dohnagestell towards Nordufer on a pedestrian crossing with a green light. However, despite the traffic light showing green for pedestrians, the 20-year-old ignored it and continued driving, resulting in a devastating collision.
Emergency services rushed to the scene and treated four 8-year-old children, two 11-year-olds, and a 63-year-old caregiver. Two of the 8-year-olds, one 11-year-old, and the caregiver were taken to a hospital for further treatment. Fortunately, the condition of the children is reported to be stable.
Traffic was blocked in the area during the investigation, and a traffic investigation unit from Police Directorate 1 (North) has taken over the case. Police officers seized the 20-year-old's driver's license and found suspected marijuana on him. The police suspect that the 20-year-old was driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. A blood sample was taken from him at a hospital for further analysis.
The incident occurred around 12:50 PM, causing significant disruption to traffic in the area. The police are urging witnesses to come forward with any information that could help in their investigation.
