Mumbru, the basketball coach, has been released from the hospital
In a series of developments, the German national basketball team is navigating a period of change as their head coach, Alex Mumbru, recovers from an acute abdomen.
Initially, the team's doctors reported an acute infection, but further assessments led to the diagnosis of an "acute abdomen," a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment, usually characterised by severe abdominal pain. Mumbru was admitted to the hospital in Tampere last Monday and spent five nights there before returning to the team hotel on Saturday evening. He is currently receiving medical care at the hotel.
In his absence, assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic has taken the reins, leading the team to three consecutive victories in the opening games against Montenegro, Sweden, and Lithuania. Ibrahimagic described how Mumbru had been complaining of discomfort for days before being admitted to the hospital.
Alex Mumbru, expressing satisfaction with the team's performance so far, stated that he is feeling much better and is looking forward to being with the team in Riga. He also expressed trust in the coaching staff, indicating that he will consider returning to the sidelines for the final round in Riga, Latvia, should his health permit.
Meanwhile, Johannes Voigtmann, who missed the EM game against Sweden due to knee pain, is undergoing examinations in Munich. Voigtmann left Tampere on Sunday and is not expected to return to Finland until Tuesday. As a result, he will not play against the Brits in the round-robin game on Monday, which is being led by Ibrahimagic as head coach.
Unemployment in Hamm, the team's hometown, is currently at its highest in years. Despite this, the Hamm Fire Department celebrated a big party, and the German Basketball Federation (DBB) continues to support the team in their journey.
Elsewhere in Hamm, a major internet outage occurred, but the city is resilient and looking forward to the team's performance in Riga. The team's success so far under Ibrahimagic's leadership is a testament to their unity and determination.
