The German basketball team is preparing for an exciting journey in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with their first competitive game scheduled for November. This news comes amidst a significant change in the coaching staff, as National Coach Alex Mumbru steps down due to a stomach illness.

Mumbru, who took over as head coach from Gordon Herbert after the Olympic Games last year, has been a driving force behind the team's recent success. His summer adjustments to a faster, more aggressive playing style have been well-implemented, particularly at this year's EuroBasket. However, Mumbru was hospitalized in Tampere due to an "acute abdomen," a medical emergency requiring immediate treatment. Despite his absence, the team managed to win their round of 16 game against Portugal, with Captain Dennis Schröder dedicating the victory to Mumbru, calling him a "warrior" with a "mentality" that the team respects.

In Mumbru's absence, Alan Ibrahimagic, an Australian-Serbian basketball coach who has served as an assistant coach for the German men's national basketball team since at least 2013, has taken over as head coach. Ibrahimagic led the team during the preliminary round in Tampere, Finland, and guided them to five wins in five games. He will now prepare the team in Riga for the quarterfinal against Slovenia.

Mumbru will continue to stay with the team and help from the sidelines. Maodo Lo, a key player, commented that the team has honoured Mumbru's philosophy and system during the EuroBasket. The team's adherence to Mumbru's ideas has been evident in their aggressive play style and effective performance.

The quarterfinal match against Slovenia, featuring NBA superstar Luka Doncic, will take place on Wednesday at 8:00 PM on RTL and MagentaSport. With the team's strong performance so far and the return of Mumbru's influence, fans are eagerly anticipating the team's journey in the World Cup qualifiers. The German Basketball Federation announced the change in coaching staff, with Ibrahimagic now taking the helm as head coach. The team's resilience and unity in the face of adversity have undoubtedly made them a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming tournament.
