Munich's Parking Lot: BA Proposes Expansion of License Zone -Weekend extension considered

In the heart of Munich, residents of the Borstei area are facing a persistent parking problem, particularly on Sundays. The city's communal traffic monitoring is currently operating from Monday to Saturday, between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., in the parking license areas to penalise violations. However, this is not enough for the residents, who are demanding more controls, especially in the evenings.

The chairwoman of the traffic subcommittee, Angelika Bueb (CSU), has proposed a potential solution: extending resident parking to Sundays. This proposal was unanimously passed by the committee and has been passed on to the responsible authorities. The city of Munich has also made a suggestion for a potential solution to the parking problem at Dantebad, but the details of this suggestion are not yet available.

Despite the parking license area, many car drivers continue to ignore the rules and park in the residential area, causing further tension. A resident has even complained to the BA about the uncontrolled and unpunished violations during event days at the nearby SAP Garden.

The BA chief, Wolfgang Kuhn (SPD), has announced that if all else fails, they will invite the parties involved to a round table. The district council has also initiated measures to reserve parking spaces for residents only.

Controls are intensified during major events at the SAP Garden, but concerns about the lack of control and punishment of violations persist. The spokesman for the city admitted that a regular Sunday surveillance is not feasible given the current budget and personnel situation.

As the situation continues to escalate, residents are hoping for a swift and effective solution to their parking woes. Whether it's through extending resident parking to Sundays, improving controls during major events, or finding a new solution altogether, the city of Munich is working to address this issue and bring relief to the residents of Borstei.
