Music, Variety, and Governmental Arts Policies
The city of Marburg is set to host the 3rd Marburger Jazz Summer from September 11th to 14th, 2025. This four-day event, organised in collaboration with the Jazz Initiative Marburg e.V., the Jazz Association Hessen, and the support of the German Jazz Union, aims to foster young talent and provide stage experience for lesser-known musicians.
The festival will kick off on September 11th at trauma with a performance by the trio Vehicle/Passenger. This innovative group brings together artists from three countries: saxophonist Marc Alberto from CuraΓ§ao, US-American drummer Lesley Mok, winner of the German Jazz Award 2024, and Cologne-based bassist Florian Herzog.
On the same day, British percussionist and sound researcher Bex Burch will take the stage at KFZ.
The following day, September 12th, will see a series of exciting performances. German jazz and fusion guitarist Michael Sagmeister will perform at 7:30 PM, while Lukas Akintaya, also known as Adeolu, will present his new band project at KFZ at 6 PM.
In the evening, the open jam session will continue at Cavete from 10:30 PM.
The special afternoon concert at the House of the Marburg Art Association on September 13 from 3 to 4 PM will feature the project Museum of no art by musician and artist Mona Steinwidder. Themes revolving around origin, democracy, collaboration, and diversity are central to this event.
German-Greek bassist Athina Kontou and her quartet Mother will kick off two cross-genre concerts at Waggonhalle on Saturday, September 13 at 6 PM. The European Jazz School / Sister City Project will continue these concerts at 7:30 PM.
Singer Enji, born in Ulaanbaatar, will perform her new album Sonor at Waggonhalle on Saturday, September 13 at 9 PM. The festival will conclude with a Mediterranean brunch at the LEO restaurant in KA.RE. on Sunday, September 14, accompanied by a combo of the studio big band Marburg.
The festival will also offer a one-hour yoga session to jazzy sounds at a location to be announced on Sunday, September 14, at 10 AM.
