Muslim community advocate Faishal Ibrahim vows to continue expressing their worries regarding Gaza to the government

In a series of recent developments, Singapore's Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Faishal Ibrahim, has been vocal about his concerns regarding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Assoc Prof Faishal, in a statement, expressed his disapproval of any actions that have gone too far, violence, and death, echoing the government's stance. He also agreed with former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert's view that Israel may be committing war crimes in Gaza.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, on the other hand, acknowledged Israel's right to defend itself but has been critical of its response to the conflict. In May, he stated that Israel may be breaching international law by restricting humanitarian aid to Gaza. More recently, he declared the restrictions imposed on the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza as completely unacceptable.

Assoc Prof Faishal is not only voicing his concerns but also taking steps to address them. He plans to bring together Malay-Muslim organizations such as the Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM) and the Malaysian Islamic Reform Society into a joint platform. This move aims to empower informal community groups that can connect with constituents and make a tangible impact.

Faishal Ibrahim is also working on a framework to bring together new and existing Malay-Muslim organizations. His goal is to develop a shared vision for the Malay-Muslim community and to ensure that Singaporeans understand the country's position on the conflict over the decades.

In his efforts to engage the community, Assoc Prof Faishal has met with many Singaporeans, including members of the Malay-Muslim community, who feel strongly about the conflict. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has encouraged Faishal Ibrahim to continue these engagements, recognising the importance of understanding and addressing the community's concerns.

Assoc Prof Faishal's ultimate goal is peace for both Israelis and Palestinians, aiming for them to live lives of their own and grow to their maximum potential. He hopes that this conflict can lead to a structure where organizations can have equal footing in contributing to the community.

In a time of global unrest, Faishal Ibrahim's actions serve as a testament to the government's commitment to fostering understanding, dialogue, and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
