"My path is being obstructed unjustly by the club."
Yoane Wissa, the Congolese winger who has represented DR Congo 33 times and scored 6 goals, finds himself on the brink of a new chapter in his career. The 28-year-old, who has spent the past four years at Brentford, has expressed his desire to depart and explore a new challenge.
In a surprising turn of events, Wissa received a formal offer from another Premier League club, but despite negotiations seeming in place, the transfer did not materialise. Wissa, however, insists that there was an agreement in writing about his potential departure.
The winger, who missed the first league games of the season, has been coveted by many clubs. In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Wissa thanked the Brentford fans for their support over the years and clarified that he did not want to leave the club "on bad terms."
Wissa's representative completed the formal transfer paperwork for a move to Newcastle United just before the extended 8:59 pm deadline on transfer deadline day. The deal, however, seems to have hit a roadblock as Wissa claims that Brentford is blocking his path despite reasonable offers.
In conversations with Brentford's leaders, Wissa spoke about his desire to leave and was told that they would not stand in his way if a reasonable offer was received. However, it appears that Brentford has since changed its position, going against what was communicated earlier.
Wissa emphasised that he has always been transparent about his position and insists that Brentford must honour its word and let him join a new club at a fair price. The winger's departure from Brentford seems imminent, but the club has yet to comment on the situation.
As the transfer saga unfolds, Wissa remains hopeful that he will be able to "discover a new challenge" and continue his career in the Premier League.
