In an unexpected twist, US President Donald Trump announced the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America." This bold move has sparked a wave of discussions and debates, as the Gulf of Mexico is one of the world's largest bodies of water and an essential part of the global ecosystem.

Meanwhile, in the southwest of Germany, humorists have been bestowing grand names to small and tiny bodies of water. The Max-Eyth Lake near Stuttgart, for instance, has been humorously labelled as the "Gulf of Swabia" on Google Maps. This trend has extended to other bodies of water such as Lake Constance, Albstausee, gravel pits in St. Blasien, Weingarten, and Neureut, all of which can now be found with their new names on Google Maps.

One such humorous entry is the "Golf von St. Blasien," a reference to the area around the town of St. Blasien, located in the Black Forest region in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. This spot can be found near the address "Am Kurgarten 13, 79837 St. Blasian" on Google Maps.

Google Maps allows users to define a "Point of Interest," usually a sight. However, Google quickly reverses such entries on Google Maps if there's no (interpretive) power behind them. This means that while these humorous renamings may bring a smile to our faces, they are not likely to stick permanently.

It's worth noting that a Staatsanzeiger subscription is required to subscribe to topics and save articles related to these renamings. For more information, you can contact Christoph Müller at 0711 66601-182 or c.mueller@our website.

While the reasons behind these renamings vary, one thing is certain: they have captured the public's imagination and added a touch of humour to our digital maps. Whether it's the Gulf of America or the Gulf of Swabia, these names serve as a reminder that sometimes, a little laughter can go a long way.
