Nationwide Alert Day on September 11, 2025 - Firefighters from Greifswald and the German Red Cross share safety tips in public markets
Annual Civil Protection Test in Greifswald
On the second Thursday in September, the Greifswald city area will experience a civil and disaster protection test. This annual event, coordinated by The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), is aimed at kindergarten groups and school classes.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) will trigger a test warning via the Modular Warning System. This system is linked to numerous warning channels, including NINA, KATWARN, radio, television, and Broadcell. During the test, Broadcell will target mobile devices, and sirens will sound throughout the city.
The Greifswald Fire Department and German Red Cross will be available to answer questions about the topic. They will also have an information booth on the Greifswald market square from 10:00 to 12:00. At the booth, they will present the "Civil Protection from the Box" project and answer questions about "warning the population."
Voice announcements will be heard in the Greifswald city area during the test. These announcements are being tested to ensure future warning texts are understandable in terms of speaking speed and tone height.
For more information about the event, please visit the website of the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK). The Greifswald Fire Department will also share important information about the topic on their social media platforms.
The "Civil Protection from the Box" project is a key part of the event. It is a tool designed to educate and inform the public about civil protection and disaster management. The project is coordinated by The International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), located at Rothschildplatz 4, 1020 Vienna, Austria.
The test is an opportunity for the population to familiarise themselves with the warning systems and procedures in place. The test warning will be lifted for most warning devices around 11:45 AM. The event will take place from 10:00 to 12:00.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about civil protection and disaster management. Stay informed and stay safe!
