Naxal Rebels in Chhattisgarh: 20 Members, Including 11 with Collective Reward of INR 3.3 Million, Yield Surrender
In a significant development, 20 Maoists, including two hardcore rebels with bounties of Rs 8 lakh each, surrendered in Sukma, Chhattisgarh, last month. This event is separate from the ongoing gun exchange and the recovery of a Naxal's body in Dantewada, another district in the region.
In Sukma, Sharmila alias Uika Bhime, a member of PLGA battalion number one, and Tati Kosi alias Pramila, a member of the west Bastar division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), were among those who surrendered. The District Superintendent of Police (SP) in Sukma, D.S. Maravi, confirmed their identities. Sharmila and Tati Kosi had bounties of Rs 8 lakh each on their heads.
It's important to note that these surrenders in Sukma are not connected to the events in Bijapur or the ongoing incidents in Dantewada. In fact, a week prior to the events in Sukma, 30 Naxals surrendered in Bijapur, under south Bastar.
Many other Maoists who surrendered in Sukma had bounties of Rs one lakh each on their heads. Four other rebels, who surrendered, carried a bounty of Rs four lakh each. The total number of Maoists who surrendered in Sukma is not specified in this report.
Another surrendered Maoist, Muchaki Hidma, was an area committee member and had a bounty of Rs 5 lakh. However, it's worth noting that the surrendered Maoist Muchaki Hidma is not the same as Muchaki Hidma mentioned in a subsequent report, where no information about the identity of the Naxal found in Dantewada is provided.
This surge in surrenders is part of a larger trend in Chhattisgarh. Over the past 18 months, a total of 1,686 Maoists have surrendered in the state. These surrenders offer a glimmer of hope for peace and stability in the troubled region.
