Necessary innovations in consumer awareness principles are crucial
The Consumer Advice Centre North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has announced a new initiative – a teaching prize aimed at strengthening consumer education in schools across the region. This prize is open to trainee teachers and young teachers of all school types and grades in North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW).
The patron of the prize is Consumer Protection Minister Silke Gorißen, and the Landesinstitut für Schule Nordrhein-Westfalen sponsors the award for innovative consumer education in North Rhine-Westphalia. The official award ceremony will take place in spring 2026 in Düsseldorf.
The prize money for the winners ranges from 1,500 euros and is at their disposal. The competition is for innovative teaching concepts for consumer education, with the aim to motivate young teachers to integrate consumer education into their subject-specific teaching.
Applications for the teaching prize can be submitted until 30 November 2025. All interested parties are encouraged to visit www.verbraucherzentrale.nrw/unterrichtspreis for more information on the call for entries.
An independent jury of experts will evaluate the submissions, and the awarded concepts will be professionally designed and made publicly available as freely usable teaching material. This means that the winning ideas will not only benefit the winners but also other schools and teachers across North Rhine-Westphalia.
The teaching prize is sponsored by the support association "We Consumers in NRW e. V.". The prize document is named "20250827_PI Teaching Price.pdf".
This new teaching prize is a significant step towards promoting consumer education in schools and encouraging young teachers to incorporate this important subject into their teaching. It's an exciting opportunity for educators to share their innovative ideas and make a lasting impact on the future consumer awareness of students in North Rhine-Westphalia.
