In the quiet town of Mülheim, an incident occurred on June 16th that has raised concerns among local residents. A con artist, later identified as Mohamed A, was temporarily taken into custody following a vigilant neighbour's intervention.

The suspect, posing as a bank employee, visited a senior citizen's apartment in Hingbergstraße, Mülheim-Altstadt, with the intention of defrauding the elderly resident. The con artist attempted to obtain the resident's EC card, its PIN number, and cash.

However, the neighbour's alertness prevented the scam. Upon noticing the unusual visit, they inquired about the situation, which led to the con artist's plans being thwarted.

The German-Turkish suspect is currently under investigation for fraud. The police are also examining a possible connection to other cases.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of mutual vigilance in neighbourhoods. Educating relatives, acquaintances, or other elderly people about criminal methods is advised. Behavioural guidelines for avoiding scams are essential.
