Geese creating town discord in Marienhafe neighborhoods - Neighborhood dispute ignites in Marienhafe due to a goose
In the peaceful town of Marienhafe, located within the Aurich district, a neighborhood dispute has arisen over the keeping of animals. Ludwig Smidt, a local resident, maintains a collection of geese, ducks, and chickens in his garden.
The district administration has announced an investigation into Smidt's animal keeping, following a complaint from a neighbour, Klaus Friedrichs. The investigation aims to determine whether the animals need to be removed due to potential health risks or legal issues.
The controversy surrounding Smidt's animal keeping has sparked a petition, signed by over 66,000 supporters, who view his property as a "little agricultural oasis." Supporters argue that Smidt has been keeping animals for decades and that the animals are his "life's purpose."
However, not all neighbours share the same sentiment. Some find the noise and smell of the animals intolerable and have expressed concerns about potential health risks. The residential area in Marienhafe is primarily for living, and residents have a high protection claim, according to the district.
The investigation is being conducted in the context of a broader neighbourhood dispute. The Aurich district emphasizes that it values a consensual solution to the dispute, and intervention will only take place if the animal keeping is legally impermissible and there is a significant impairment.
Interestingly, around 50 direct neighbours have stated in writing that they do not feel disturbed by the animals and consider them an enrichment to their neighbourhood.
As the investigation continues, the future of Smidt's animals remains uncertain. The potential outcome of the investigation is the removal of the animals from Smidt's care, a decision that would undoubtedly be met with strong reactions from both sides of the dispute.
