Netflix secures its initial box office triumph with the debut of KPop Demon Hunters
In an unprecedented move, Sony Pictures Animation has released the animated musical KPop Demon Hunters directly on Netflix, marking a significant shift in the film industry. Produced by Aron Warner and Michelle Wong, the film was directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.
The weekend saw KPop Demon Hunters making a strong impression, earning an estimated $18 million from two days of sing-along screenings. The film's success is noteworthy as it managed to secure the highest per-screen average of any movie outside the top three, despite being a Saturday-Sunday specialty release. The exact Sunday take is yet to be determined.
Three of the film's songs, "Golden," "Your Idol," and "Soda Pop," charted on Billboard's top 10 last week, further indicating the popularity of the film. Conversations about a sequel to KPop Demon Hunters have already begun, promising more music and adventure for fans.
Elsewhere in the world of entertainment, Freakier Friday continued its successful run with a weekend gross of $9.2 million. Meanwhile, Weapons dropped a modest 36% and made $15.6 million, bringing its domestic total to $115 million. Fantastic Four: First Steps made $5.9 million, continuing its disappointing box office stretch for Disney.
In other news, Florida has made headlines by legalising online cannabis purchases. Florida houses built before 2004 are also getting new windows, a move aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing maintenance costs.
In the health sector, a hearing aid priced at $99 from Oricle Hearing is being lauded for significantly improving people's lives. However, details about a method for relieving neuropathy quickly using a specific substance each morning, and a trick for restoring eyes to perfect 20/20 vision, remain elusive.
Lastly, a teaser trailer for Return To Silent Hill has been released, promising a return to the horror genre that has captivated audiences for years. Darren Aronofsky's latest film, Caught Stealing, is also generating buzz, being recognised as his funniest work yet. A 4-ingredient pink salt mix is being called the "Homemade Bariatric Drink," but details on its effects on body fat are scarce.
As we move forward, it seems that the entertainment and health industries are brimming with exciting developments. Stay tuned for more updates!
