Netflix's Olympo: Superior to Elite or Falling Short?

In the ever-expanding world of Netflix, two new additions have recently caught the attention of viewers - the action-packed movie "Gunpowder Milkshake" and the Spanish drama series "Olympo".

Let's start with "Gunpowder Milkshake". This fresh offering stars Karen Gillan and Lena Headey, and tells the story of Sam, a character played by Gillan. At the tender age of 12, Sam was abandoned by her mother Scarlet, an elite assassin, setting the stage for a life under the watchful eye of The Firm, a ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Fifteen years later, Sam has followed in her mother's footsteps, growing into an assassin herself.

Moving on to "Olympo", a new addition to Netflix's Spanish catalogue, which only has one season so far, compared to multiple seasons of its counterpart, Elite. Set in the realm of elite athletes, "Olympo" offers a fresher take on the teen drama genre, departing from the academic setting of Elite. The show focuses more on the synchronized swimming team, providing a more realistic portrayal compared to other sports in the series.

"Olympo" also delves into the darker aspects of the sports world, exposing issues like homophobia through characters like Roque. While it shares some similarities with Elite, such as mystery elements and cast crossovers, the mystery at the centre of Olympo's plot, involving Nuria's disappearance, is less exciting than the murder mystery in Elite's first season. The mystery in Olympo doesn't receive the same level of development either, with the storyline affecting only certain characters more than others.

On a lighter note, the Netflix original series "Cheer" has been generating buzz since its release in 2020. This showstopping series has been attracting attention for its captivating portrayal of the competitive cheerleading world.

It's worth noting that Netflix offers a wide variety of foreign language movies and TV shows for viewers to explore different cultures and languages. Whether you're in the mood for action, drama, or reality TV, Netflix has something for everyone. So, why not take a break from your usual routine and dive into something new? After all, variety is the spice of life!
