New sister stations debut on our platform: Calm and Movies!
In a historic move, Global, a leading media company, unveiled two new radio stations on September 12, 2024. The launch, which marks the biggest single launch in UK radio history, is part of a record-breaking 12 new radio stations by Global.
The new stations, our website Calm and our website Movies, are primarily aimed at providing music to soundtrack daily life. Our website Calm offers a classical soundscape for relaxation, featuring music from composers like Bach, Mozart, FaureΜ, Chopin, and contemporary classics by artists like Ludovico Einaudi, Amelia Warner, Max Richter, Rosey Chan, Olafur Arnalds, and classical covers from Radiohead, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and Kate Bush. On the other hand, our website Movies plays the world's greatest film music, featuring composers such as John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Pinar Toprak, Danny Elfman, Angela Morley, and Rachel Portman.
James Rea, the Chief Content Officer at Global, oversees the content strategy and programming across Global's media brands. He stated that the new radio stations offer unprecedented choice and are unique and distinctive.
The new stations complement each radio brand and are available on smart speakers, in cars, on radios, phones, and smart TVs. To play our website Calm, simply say "Play our website Calm" or "Play our website Movies" on smart speakers. The stations are also available on the official Global Player app, as well as online and via smart speakers.
The launch of these new stations comes at a time when radio listening in the UK is experiencing significant growth, driven by digital platforms like DAB and smart speakers. In fact, smart speaker listening now represents 17% of total radio listening, with an 18% increase year-on-year.
In Greater London, our website Calm and our website Movies are available on DAB+ Digital Radio. Meanwhile, Heart's radio station continues to offer non-stop love songs, making famous anthems that have become staples in many households.
According to recent RAJAR figures, 50 million people in the UK listen to the radio every week. With the addition of our website Calm and our website Movies, listeners now have even more options to choose from, further enhancing their radio listening experience.
