New students are arriving! - Collaborative undertakings titled "School bag" and "School road safety" enhancing road safety in Hamburg region - Press invitation extended
On Monday, 8th September 2025, over 27,000 new school children will embark on their educational journey in Hamburg, and to ensure their safety, the Hamburg Police Department will conduct targeted checks around schools from the 8th until the 26th of September. This initiative, named the "Schoolbag Action 2025 - Safe Streets for Our Children," will see the participation of key figures such as Senator for Education Ksenija Bekeris, Enno Treumann, head of the traffic directorate of the Police Department, and Dr. Franke from the North Accident Insurance Fund.
The Schoolbag Action will focus on both stationary and moving traffic, with a particular emphasis on primary schools. The head of the Traffic Department, Enno Treumann, will lead this event, aiming to enhance safety and raise awareness among parents and accompanying persons.
The kick-off event for these checks will take place at the Winterhuder Carl-Cohn School on Monday, 8th September 2025, at 09:30. During the Schoolbag Action, students from three 4th classes will distribute "schoolbags" (prevention flyers in the form of a schoolbag) to drivers at the Otto-Wels-StraΓe traffic light crossing. The goal of these checks is to educate and remind everyone about the importance of road safety, particularly during school hours.
