Ireland Secures Victory in World Cup Match against Japan

In a thrilling World Cup match, Ireland emerged victorious against Japan with a convincing score of 42-14. The highlight of the game for Ireland was a pivotal try scored by Eve Higgins, who ran the length of the field to secure the points.

On the Japanese side, their coach Lesley McKenzie praised their attacking game, citing well-worked tries by Haruka Hirotsu and Masami Kawamura. However, the scoreline was not in Japan's favour, as Ireland maintained their dominance throughout the game.

Meanwhile, in another match, New Zealand demonstrated their prowess against Spain, despite playing with a short-handed team. The Black Ferns led Spain 21-3 at half-time, and even when Ayesha Leti-I'iga had to leave the game due to injury, reducing New Zealand to 13 players, they managed to score five tries in the second half. Kaipo Olsen-Baker was also injured and taken off on a stretcher in the 55th minute, further depleting their numbers. Despite these setbacks, Portia Woodman-Wickliffe scored a record 21st World Cup try for New Zealand in the second half.

In a significant development, South Africa secured their first Women's World Cup match win since 2010, defeating tournament debutants Brazil 66-6. Aseza Hele, South Africa's No. 8, was a standout player, scoring three of South Africa's 10 tries in the match. Brazil, however, managed to get points on the scoreboard through two penalties from fly-half Raquel Kochhann.

Elsewhere, France won their match against Italy 24-0, but no specific details about the match were provided. South Africa is set to play Italy, who lost to France 24-0, with Springboks coach Swys de Bruin emphasizing the need to raise their game to secure a likely quarter-final spot.

Back row Larissa Lima Henwood of Brazil is looking forward to an opportunity to demonstrate their attacking qualities after making 168 tackles against South Africa. She stated that the entire game against South Africa was primarily defense, and she is eager for a game where Brazil can showcase their attacking abilities.

Scott Bemand, coach of Ireland, acknowledged that their game was not perfect, but the victory against Japan was a significant step forward for the team. The World Cup continues to provide exciting matches and close contests, with each team striving to secure their place in the quarter-finals.
