Ninety individuals perished, and scores were wounded during an earthquake in Afghanistan.
In a tragic turn of events, a series of earthquakes hit Afghanistan's eastern province of Nangarhar on Sunday, causing widespread destruction and loss of life.
The sequence began with a 6.0 magnitude earthquake, followed by a 4.5 magnitude earthquake, both occurring in the same province. The German Research Centre for Geosciences reported the incident, with the epicentre of the larger quake located near Jalalabad, about 119km (74 miles) away from the capital city, Kabul.
The 6.3-magnitude earthquake's epicentre was not in Nangarhar, but in the neighbouring province of Kunar, near the border with Pakistan. The place exactly near the epicenter of the devastating earthquake was reported by sources.
The 4.5 magnitude earthquake had a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), while the subsequent 5.2 magnitude earthquake had a depth of 14km (8.7 miles).
The earthquake has left a heart-wrenching toll in its wake. At least 1,500 people are reported to have been killed, according to the United Nations, contradicting the Taliban government's claim of 4,000 deaths. At least 25 people were also injured in the disaster.
The hardest-hit area appears to be Nangarhar province, where at least nine people were killed. The exact number of casualties is still being verified, and the situation remains fluid.
Our thoughts go out to those affected by this devastating natural disaster, and we hope for a swift and effective response from aid organisations to help those in need.
