Nizhny Novgorod suffered defeat in the second round of the VHL competition
In a closely contested match, Torpedo-Nizhny Novgorod faced off against AKM from the Tula region at the Viktor Konovalenko Sports Palace on September 7. The head coach of AKM, Irek Galyaviyev, led his team with determination.
The starting lineup for Torpedo was as follows: Zinadov (backup), Bochkov (C), Steklov, Miskin, Opalev (A), Artaomonov, Varakov, Zharkov, Omelusik, Ilyin (A), Gazizov, Alexandrov, Sukh, Kosolapov, Svischev, Krukov, Glinsky, Gl. Chesnokov, Utkin, Odinokov, Maiorov.
The hosts took the lead in the 2nd minute of the game, with a goal scored by Anton Kosolapov, assisted by Denis Alexandrov and Kirill Svischev. However, the guests responded in the 2nd minute of the next period, scoring on a power play after a five-minute penalty to Arseniy Varakov.
The game remained tight, with both teams displaying resilience. The overtime ended in a 0:0 tie, setting the stage for a thrilling shootout. Unfortunately, Torpedo could not secure the win, with the shootout resulting in a 2:3 loss for the home team. AKM's Timur Sharifyanov scored twice in the shootout, proving to be the difference-maker.
Despite the loss, Torpedo should take heart from Nikita Artaomonov's goal in the 50th minute, assisted by Ilya Sukh and Roman Opalev. The team will have an opportunity to bounce back quickly, as their third game of the season will be held on September 9 against Ryazan-VDV at the Viktor Konovalenko Sports Palace, with a start time of 6:30 PM.
The game on September 7 was attended by 1,000 spectators, who witnessed a gripping contest between two well-matched teams. Torpedo-Nizhny Novgorod will be hoping to turn their fortunes around in their upcoming fixture against Ryazan-VDV.
